Read What The Man Has To Say After The Game
Volume 9
Sometimes it hard to get up in the mourning,
being self employed not only do
I have to push myself to get up but I actually
have to push myself to work during the day.
I had to push myself this past Sunday. I
am not exactly sure why we have these two
4:05 games but I don't like it.
1:00 games are great. I get up at 7:00am
and get my stuff together. I head out at
about 7:30am;
stop by Mickey D's for a little Breakfast.
I have also been stopping at the Amoco on
Russell Street for Gatorade seeing that
I can't remember to buy it during the week.
I park on the street in a neighborhood parking
section right in front of where the game
day cops park so it's relatively safe.
From that point I usually have two hours
to sit in my Van, grab a bite, read the paper,
and relax a little before game time. I have
to get their two hours early to get my space
but I like it.
Around 10am I turn on WQSR and listen to
Tom Davis, Steve Rouse and his gang talk
about the day's game.
Around 1030am I head towards the stadium
for my pregame interview with Guess who?
Tom Davis and Steve Rouse. They set up a
little RV outside of Unitas Plaza for the
pregame broadcast.
I think I walked up before the first or second
game this year and tried to get interviewed
basically just to run my mouth and see if
I could get on the air. Well since the first
interview it has become habit.
This week they were still in the RV because
it was so cold I guess so they let me inside
for a small chat and then off to the game.
When I get to our entrance there is usually
a small group of vendors waiting to get in.
Our wait can range anywhere from 15 minutes
to an hour and 15 minutes depending on how
prepared the vending dept is.
This gives us a few minute to visit with
some of the other vendors talk about the
previous game
and life in general for that matter. So we
were hanging out and then someone brings
out the list.
We had two lists for the first time ever.
They had one for Product Sales by name and
low and behold
The Man is #1 for Miller Lite in the entire
stadium for the entire year!!! Very Cool!!!!!
I have been a little worried about not only
making the top ten but just keeping my product
in my room.
So this made me feel GREAT!!! More good news
came when the list for rankings was given
out and
I had not only moved up from 9 to 8 but
I beat Robert who
I went head to head against the week before
for control of my spot. Yes I AM THE MAN!!!!!!!!
Suddenly I was very pumped up and ready to
go. After a short speech from Clancy we were
in the door.
I grabbed my Miller Lite Card, my Bonus
Product Card (Pepsi) and then more waiting.
Now I have another half hour or so to wait.
I usually begin about an hour before the
game.
I'll take out a 10 pack of Miller and a
10 pack of Pepsi to get started. Usually
after two laps
around the stadium I'll end up in my section
and stay there. When the anthem begins
I head for the vending room to reload. I'll
grab two cases of 16 oz Miller Lite Plastic
bottles and a six pack of soda.
I head straight between section 105 and 107
where I go to the bottom and head up.
In the Front Row of section 107 are Tim,
Paul and gang. They are really my anchor
customers.
Every stop when I'm in that section the
first fours rows will buy at least a twelve
pack. Multiply that by 6 to 8 visits and
I'm on a roll.
I had a great start and next thing you know
it's just another beautiful day at the park.
I know we lost but game day is really about
family for me. I know we're not related but
I don't see most of you in any other situation.
So I get to visit my adopted family if you
will,
deliver a few cold ones, while being the
life of the party. It's funny how that works
out. I love it.
It can definitely be physically tuff on hot
days but it's a challenge and for the most
part I'm up to it.
I'm usually at the end of the tunnel for
half-time and as the clock starts for the
fourth quarter
I have to gage when to pick up and go. Today
with 14 minutes left I took off.
As the clock ticks on the third quarter so
ticks the clock on my day.
The goal is to sell out right at the end
or even have a few left at the beginning
of the fourth quarter.
The worst is to run out with a few minutes
to go and not be able to get back before
it's over.
I sometimes get flack for calling Last Call
too early so I try to be careful watching
the clock so
I try to gage when to say it so I can try
not to call Last Call in the same isle twice
although and
I think you will agree I would rather call
last call in isle twice than not calling
it at all because I waited too long.
Today I had a great last call. I headed down
between 105 and 107 with 20 beers left
and about 2 minutes left on the clock. When
the first play started on the fourth quarter
which when
I am supposed to stop I had four beers left.
Very cool!!!!! So yet another day in the
trenches with my Fans and your Beer.
Who is the man any way?????
